I met ‘MOBA’ sometime last year. Forget his year group, because i am not telling you. But i did meet an old boy and oh !, what nostalgic excitement ! haha… particularly for me, because i was able to recollect his name – part of his name, at least.

As we continued our discourse,i couldn’t help but express my regret for not been active in the great and honorable institution ‘MOBA’. I had to say it, because he seemed very much abreast with filla on THE SCHOOL and ‘MOBA’.With no such in depth knowledge myself, i was naturally forced to confess rather than wait to be queried. And embarrassed. I was thus surprised when this fine gentleman replied ”me sef i no dey go-oo..ah!,…man no get time give den kind useless things”

Of course he was referring to MOBA activities…

Look,…i was struck…seriously. Disappointed, and i dare say hurt. Why should it be so? Has the world so degenerated to the extent that man is no longer his fellow’s keeper? Let it be some other reason, but not that. I could not help but think on the reasons that had kept me away from MOBA.

What is it, with all this rush to amass wealth to spend on only three people – ‘we’, ‘ourselves’, and ‘us’. The whole incident brought to my mind fond memories of my days in school….in THE SCHOOL, and all the help we received as students from old boys (and their families), and some kindhearted individuals who were not old boys! And mind you, some of them did not have children/relatives there !

Where is that selfless spirit? The hardworking, sacrificial, giving spirit? I think the story of the faithful eight has never been more relevant. We need to continually remind ourselves, not just of the eight students, but of the headmaster who despite the odds he identified when he came to meet them, decided to stay and indeed stayed on.

You know what, the interesting thing is, we will never get all the things we want even if we were to live and work for a hundred years.

So lets take care of ourselves. Lets take care of our families. Yes. But lets take care of others too….the  orphans, the homeless, the sick and needy…..and THE SCHOOL.

We should be able to sing with confidence, that we are faithfully, truthfully and boldly fighting as those who fought of old to give us THE SCHOOL. Then and only then can we win, as they won, the victor’s crown of glorious heritage, a school ‘par excellence’, known worldwide as THE SCHOOL.

Our heritage stands in danger if we don’t continue this fight. But more so humankind, because the root cause would be the lose of the selfless spirit.

Permit me to say, that you are the faithful eight. You must make the school stand. You must make the heritage grow regardless of what the other MOBA does.

Let’s win with them the victor’s crown of gold.
